The Cultural Center Planning Initiative (CCPI) is a comprehensive planning project focused on creating a vibrant and connected cultural district for the City of Detroit.

The project brings together 12 distinct institutions to build a collective vision for a unified and welcoming public landscape: The Carr Center, C.H. Wright Museum of African American History, College for Creative Studies, Detroit Historical Museum, Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Public Library, Hellenic Museum of MI, International Institute of Metro Detroit, Michigan Science Center, The Scarab Club, University of Michigan and Wayne State University.

The vision of CCPI is rooted in shared resources: public space, water-management landscapes, and amenities that serve all participating institutions. Culturally, CCPI introduces strategies to blur the boundaries between institutional interiors and the public landscape, creating a more welcoming civic space for all. Environmentally, the plan integrates water management infrastructure and makes it visible and beautiful. Economically, it attracts a wide range of people from nearby neighborhoods, across the city, and beyond.

This session will provide an overview of the proposed design for the Cultural Center Planning Initiative along with the digital strategy for the district. We will share our latest plans for increased parking efficiency, free public wi-fi, while developing accessible and more frequent outdoor programming and other public art opportunities year-round. This session will also provide info about the city’s efforts to make Detroit more connected through a number of broadband and digital strategies and share the latest on the city’s new dynamic parking app. We also want to hear your feedback on what you want to see happen in Detroit’s Cultural Center. Learn more, share feedback, and join us!
