(Brief paragraph here) Midtown Detroit, Inc. (MDI) is a not-for-profit community and economic development organization focused on Midtown, Detroit. MDI organized the initial DIA Plaza | Midtown Cultural Connections Competition in joint collaboration with the Detroit Institute of Arts, and continue to be involved in the Cultural Center Planning Initiative.

The unique character and resources of Midtown Detroit inspired the leaders of WSU, the College for Creative Studies, the DIA and the Engineering Society of Detroit to form the University Cultural Center Association (UCCA) in 1976. UCCA is now doing business as Midtown Detroit, Inc. (MDI) after merging with New Center Council, Inc.

Today, MDI has over 150 members representing the area's cultural, academic, medical and service institutions, corporations, businesses and community organizations. Over 300 representatives from member organizations actively participate in MDI activities through committees, which include Public Space Development and Maintenance, Community and Economic Development, Security, Marketing, and Special Events. These committees have been responsible for the completion and/or operation of over 40 programs and projects in the Midtown district.
